Some drivers spend their off weekend around the house knocking off the honey-do list. Some go to the Congo. And some take time off racing to ... go racing.
And sometimes, that doesn't work out so well. Case in point: Kasey Kahne, who was running in the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., when disaster struck! As you can see in the fan video above, Kahne's car somersaulted and vaulted over the guardrail and down a hill adjacent to the track.
However, no one was hurt, least of all Kahne, who jogged back up to the track, to the cheers of the crowd.
"Got wiped out in my heat race tonight," Kahne later wrote on Twitter. "Haven't flipped like that in a long time!"
Kahne had been running well at the track, posting the seventh-fastest time in qualifying. He's one of several racers with extensive experience driving on dirt, and he runs his own sprint car team. He was scheduled to run again at Wiliams Grove on Saturday and Lebanon Valley (N.Y.) Speedway on Sunday.
Kahne returns to action in his day job next weekend at Indianapolis.
