Suchitra Krishnamoorthy embroiled in child labour case

Mumbai: After TV actress Urvashi, who was in news for child abuse, actress-model Suchitra Krishnamoorthy has been embroiled in a child labour case. The actress’ house has been raided and she has been booked for flouting child labour law. Suchitra allegedly employed a little girl as a domestic help.

Kavita Gupta, the Labour Secretary in Maharashtra govt has maintained that the houses of Suchitra, Lakshmi and Uma Khanna have been raided.

However, Suchitra has denied the episode. “The only underage girl in my house is my little daughter. My house has not been raided”.

Ironically, the actress, is involved in various charitable work, having been closely associated with Saathi — an NGO that works towards giving shelter and rehabilitation to destitute and runaway women and children.

Earlier, Urvashi, a small- time TV actress, was arrested and later released here on Saturday for cruelly abusing a 10-year-old girl child who was employed as her domestic help.

According to reports, the actress was arrested after the medical reports of the little girl confirmed the extent of abuse incurred on her. The actress had inhumanly punched the girl in her eyes and had also burnt the child’s arm mercilessly.

The actress, who was booked under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Child Labour Act, is currently out on bail.

Suchitra is known for having endorsed many products such as Palmolive soap, Clearasil, Sunrise Coffee, Limca and Colgate toothpaste. She also made her breakthrough in films with ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na’ opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 1994. She simultaneously pursued a music career in the mid to late 1990s, releasing the pop albums Dole Dole, Dum Tara, Aha, and Zindagi.
